Faith is feeling. Life doesn’t come with many assurances. In the words of Ben Franklin, the only certainties in life are death and taxes. I’m not sure about the latter.
Faith is trusting that the system works to provide for the disparate parts. However, we are guided, God. The common principle is that there is organization among the many individual parts of reality.
Faith is a larger system of trust. We can trust our God will bring us to where we need to be in life, and all we have to do is have faith in God and then faith in ourselves will follow. If we can trust ourselves to get up in the morning and work hard to provide for ourselves and our family, then we can be flexible and work hard no matter what changes in our life, relationships, or environment. If we can be disciplined to maintain this attitude, then faith will naturally follow. Faith doesn’t work unless we do. Therefore, a core principle backing faith is discipline. Here are a few ways we can promote our personal faith to know that we can accomplish great things through having discipline:
- Having goals, and breaking them down into small pieces that can be actionable with deadlines.
- Rewarding our personal success. By encouraging ourselves to achieve, we promote future success.
- Having a routine. Start the morning the same way each day. This will help create momentum for the rest of the day.
- Having a friend or family member to help hold us accountable. We are the primary person to hold ourselves accountable, but it doesn’t hurt to have someone there for us.
- Having an anchor. Habits like working out or sleeping “anchor” us by increasing our will to make things happen. When we remember how we feel after a great night of sleep or a good workout, we are more likely to prioritize these habits.
We get what we give. We can have confidence that we will be provided for based on our contribution. We might be interested in following our passion because it is a great source of energy. Said another way, when we are doing what we love, we feel good! The better we feel the more our lives will improve. We can trust, and work to build the discipline necessary to make our dreams reality. All we have to do is work and be patient. It all flows from faith!
