Uber was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get. I’ve been driving for a week, and I swear I’ve seen it all from wealthy people dining with Kevin Hart to a drunk girl screaming about the time she lost her virginity at the harbor.
the most interesting part of driving is learning how to communicate with temporary guests. It’s a blend of 5 to 20 minute rides which means there’s not exactly enough time for learning each person’s life story, and mostly people are primarily interested in getting from point a to b alright. However, I do get some riders that are a blast. I get stories like people driving the entire California coastline with explicit details of the cliffs that were close calls, the mountain and ocean views and all the stops along the way. And some others that tell me about their adventures on private planes taking care of high value clients between Kona, Hawaii and SB County. Or stories about the pain that marriage can bring and the reward of building a lifelong partnership with another person. When they’re not telling stories, sometimes we’re having fun with Karaoke, discovering music together, or just laughing the night away.
Overall, 10/10 would recommend. People are lovely and seeing your reflection in the people you meet is extraordinary. It keeps reminding me that we’re all on the same team, and working together to make the world a better place.
