Presence is important. Without it, we are on autopilot. Life with meaning requires direction, which we receive and deliver when we are conscious.

When we are triggered emotionally, it is especially important that we take care to be aware. If we can find ourselves in that moment and observe the situation neutrally, then we are better able to balance ourselves and invite peace into the space.

To be aware when emotionally triggered is more difficult than to be aware when we are still. Try taking a couple deep breath and just watch how your body moves and feel the breath moving inside of you. That’s presence. People oftentimes suggest that when we become emotional that we take deep breaths, which has the benefit of bringing presence and neutralizing our emotions. This is because the mind’s natural state is peace.

The more we can bring presence into our lives the more peace we will spread. If we remember that every action we take matters because of the butterfly effect / compounding then we are able to realize a greater future that is possible starting with ourselves. Since it’s easier to start being present when not triggered, start to realize when you’re not breathing and recenter. The breath and presence create the right space to free our minds.
