Cold water showers are majorly underrated. Ever woken up feeling tired? Cold water shower. Ever felt not quite like yourself? Cold water shower. Ever wanted to slow your body down before going to sleep? Cold water shower. Aside from the myriad of benefits you can find with a quick Google search, cold water showers lower inflammation, support the immune system, and, more importantly, provide a sense of strength and accomplishment.

Not many people enjoy cold water showers, especially when it’s cold. The point is not to like the cold water; it’s to appreciate the benefits that come from completing the task. You get out and feel energized and strong for having completed a mental challenge for the morning. It brings with it a renewed sense of self. Before getting in, it’s a fight, mentally, trying to get in. The water is cold and you will try to make excuses. You’ll hear things like, warm water is good for you too, or do I really have to this morning? And better still, ideas to do anything other than get in the shower. I notice that I’ll distract myself by dancing, singing, or even just looking in the mirror so I don’t have to face the cold. But eventually, I realize the sooner I start, the sooner it’s over, and I jump in. Two minutes later and I’m a better man. My body is refreshed and ready to start or end the day; I take a cold shower twice daily. Over time, this helps build discipline, and the great thing about it is that you can see the result immediately. Just keep reminding yourself how you feel afterwards. Take the plunge. You’ll be a better person for it.
