Contradiction — saying what we intend to do and doing something different. We are often between what we know we should do and what is actually happening. For example, we say we should eat more fruits and vegetables each day, but how often do we even reach the recommended minimum of 1.5-2 cups for fruit and 2-3 cups for vegetables? Maybe we make it some of the time or even most of the time, but we sometimes might still falter. When we do, we only need to get up and keep moving forward. However, this line between what we know we should do and what we are actually doing exists in almost every sphere of our individual lives. The good news is that life is about improvement, not perfection. Additionally, after acknowledging that we have things to work on, then we can actually start or continue the process of becoming the best version of who we are. Picture yourself on the Eiffel Tower with the person that you love, or in the Swiss Alps, or the beaches in Italy and think, “who is the person I see standing there”? Are they hard working and excited about life? When you define what you see at the end of your life and work backwards to achieve it, you open yourself up to the potential that you will live a life that you create and honor without contradicting yourself. If we can master the discipline of doing what we think is right, then the sky's the limit.
However, first we have to notice where we are contradicting ourselves. Often, we give the advice we need most, so look at what you are telling other people. Also, notice when you judge others because often, not always, these are things that we worry about ourselves or don’t like in ourselves.
The more honest we are with who we are, the easier it will be to change ourselves and become the person we want to be. With some discipline we can become faithful to our word and actually create the life we want for ourselves.
