Our identity can make or break us. What we determine we are capable of is the false limit that we set for ourselves. In reality, we are bound by nothing, the sky is the limit, and we are only constrained by time. Whether we tell ourselves we can do something or not, we are right. Success in all things begins in the mind. We have to decide that we are worthy of happiness and success before we can achieve them. Our thoughts become our actions, our actions become our habits, our habits become our identity.
Good news is our identity is ever-changing and all it requires is new evidence about the people we are. For example, if you want to lose weight then tell yourself that you are the kind of person who will go to the gym to lose weight. Then give yourself evidence that you are this new person by consistently attending the gym. Even if you only make it to the gym for 5-15 minutes, your mind will still think you’ve started to make a shift in your identity. The important thing is to stay consistent and a large part of that is not rushing to success. Don’t overwork yourself in the first inning, this is a marathon not a sprint. The important thing is to stay consistent, and do what you say you’re going to do. Hold yourself to a higher standard and maintain your integrity.
This is true for doing things like starting a business or becoming the president. You have to believe in yourself before anything can happen. If you think you can’t do it, then you’re right. But if you change your identity to think it’s natural for you to achieve something great, then you will achieve great things. Sure, it will still require hard work, but that’s what separates the good from the great. The whole world would be a better place if people believed in themselves and decided that they could achieve their dreams. It makes me imagine cool things like fountains on the bay bridge or cart wheelers in Times Square or even jet-packing through the Hawaiian Islands. Anything is possible when we believe in ourselves. All it starts with is shifting our identity to knowing we are capable of what we desire.
Think of the person you would have to be to achieve your goal and then simply be that person now. What habits does that version of you have, what do they say, think, and do? Allow yourself the opportunity to achieve your dreams! This is your life, live it to its greatest potential!
